The Chinese Language and Culture Study Camp for Hong Kong and Macao Youth kicked off at Shaanxi Normal University (SNNU) on August 6. Organized by SNNU under the leadership of the MOE’s Department of Language Application and Administration, the 10-day event drew over 100 college and middle school students from Hong Kong and Macao.

The camp included trips to historical and cultural heritage sites. In Weinan, the students visited the Cang Jie Memorial Temple, which honors the legendary inventor of Chinese characters. In Xi’an they visited the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor, Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Park, the Forest of Steles, and the China National Archives of Publications and Culture (Xi’an Branch). In Yan’an, they visited the Yan’an Revolutionary Heritage Site and Liangjiahe Village to experience the revolutionary spirit of hard work and perseverance. In addition, the camp offered practical courses such as spoken Mandarin, recitation of classic texts, and traditional calligraphy and painting.

In total, the study tour consisted of five thematic lectures and 15 field-study sessions, in addition to three types of hands-on courses. The program was designed to enhance participants’ proficiency in Standard Chinese, raise their awareness of China’s fine traditional culture, and promote patriotic education. In the final phase of the program, participants presented their learning outcomes through exhibitions of calligraphy, recitation performances, and essays reflecting on their study experiences.
