The World Heritage Committee approved a further expansion of the Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of Yellow Sea–Bohai Gulf of China at its 48th session in Busan on July 27.

The decision adds the Changshan Islands migratory bird habitat in Dalian, Liaoning Province, to the World Heritage property. Located in the northern Yellow Sea, the newly added area covers more than 4,900 hectares.

The extension consists of four main parts: Fantuozi of Guanglu Island, Toutuozi of Gexian Island, Dahaozi Island, and a rocky coastal area south of Bashao Island.

The property was first inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2019 with two component areas in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. It was expanded in 2024 to include five additional areas in Shanghai, Shandong, Hebei and Liaoning. The latest addition marks the property’s second expansion.
