Vice Minister of Education Ren Youqun met with Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), in Beijing recently.

Ren said that China’s education authorities stand ready to work with ASEAN member states to expand cooperation through bilateral and multilateral mechanisms. He expressed hope that the two sides will advance practical cooperation in digital and AI-enabled education, vocational education, and language teaching, while supporting higher education institutions to leverage their academic strengths and build collaborative platforms for talent training, thereby boosting China–ASEAN connectivity and shared prosperity and contributing to a closer China–ASEAN community with a shared future.

Kao emphasized that education is a key pillar of ASEAN–China cooperation. He expressed support for establishing a China–ASEAN education ministers’ meeting mechanism and hosting China–ASEAN Education Exchange Week, with a view to strengthening ASEAN–China relations, economic and trade cooperation, and cultural exchange through education.
