Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng met with Portugal's Minister of Education, Science and Innovation Fernando Alexandre on June 11. The two sides exchanged views on deepening bilateral educational cooperation.

Huai introduced China's progress in building a leading education system and formulating the 15th five-year plan for education development. He said China will work with Portugal to improve cooperation mechanisms, building on existing strengths in language cooperation, and a new "language plus major" model for talent training. Huai said that these would support leading universities in China and Portugal in launching high-quality collaborative programs in marine science, life health, digital technology, artificial intelligence, engineering excellence, and more fields, thereby promoting economic growth and industrial development in both countries.

Alexandre affirmed Portugal's strong commitment to Sino-Portuguese educational cooperation as a member state of the European Union. He expressed Portugal's readiness to enhance language cooperation and student exchange with China, maintain close bilateral engagement in areas of mutual interest, and help contribute to more robust and in-depth educational cooperation between Europe and China.
