The MOE held a meeting on May 13 to review and advance educational support measures linked to rural revitalization and poverty prevention efforts.

The meeting focused on implementing regular assistance mechanisms to consolidate the achievements of poverty alleviation and support broader rural development. Du Jiangfeng, Vice Minister of Education, attended the meeting and delivered remarks.

The meeting stressed the need to maintain stable education support policies as China moves from targeted poverty alleviation campaigns to regular assistance mechanisms. The meeting called for stronger coordination between existing education policies and new rural revitalization initiatives, with a particular focus on ensuring continued access to compulsory education in rural areas.

The meeting also highlighted the need to strengthen support for rural schools and promote the high-quality development of rural education. Participants discussed ways to improve assistance programs carried out by central government institutions and universities, and to give education a stronger role in supporting agricultural modernization and rural development.

The MOE said education support should help improve learning conditions in rural communities, but also contributing to broader goals, including talent development, social mobility and long-term regional development.

Representatives from the education departments of Shandong, Hubei and Gansu provinces, as well as Sun Yat-sen University and Southwest University, shared local experiences and practical approaches during the meeting.

The event was held via video link and attended by officials from MOE departments, provincial education authorities and affiliated universities.
