The annual meeting of national coordinators of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet) opened in Sanya, Hainan Province, on March 31, bringing together education officials and experts from more than 40 countries.
Vice Minister of Education Ren Youqun, who also heads the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, delivered remarks via video. He said China places education at the center of its modernization efforts and has advanced reforms to improve access, quality and inclusiveness, alongside progress in digital transformation.
Ren noted that ASPnet, one of the world’s longest-standing and largest school networks, provides an important platform for international exchange. He encouraged participating schools and coordinators to strengthen collaboration, explore new approaches to STEM education and digital learning, and contribute to broader improvements in education systems.
The three-day meeting is jointly organized by UNESCO and the Hainan Provincial Department of Education, with support from the International Centre of ASPnet. Participants include officials from UNESCO headquarters and field offices, as well as national coordinators and education specialists from around the world.
