The 2025 national summer volunteer campaign, "Mandarin Promotion for Rural Revitalization", officially kicked off with a launch ceremony at the National Language Promotion Base of Jiangsu Normal University.
This year's initiative has mobilized over 21,000 student and faculty volunteers, organized into 2,000 teams from 948 universities across China. Participants attended the ceremony both in person and online.
During the event, representatives from the Communication University of China, North China Electric Power University (Baoding), and the Education Bureau of Zhaosu County in Xinjiang shared their experiences. Organizers also presented flags to selected university teams, including those from Fudan University and Heilongjiang Agricultural Reclamation Vocational College, marking the beginning of their fieldwork.
The campaign drew widespread interest nationwide, with more than 80,000 applicants from 8,013 teams representing 1,680 universities. After expert evaluation, 2,000 teams were chosen to carry out practical activities in over 900 counties and districts.
Launched in 2018, the campaign is jointly organized by the Department of Language Application and Administration of the Ministry of Education and the Youth Development Department of the Communist Youth League of China. To date, it has engaged more than 6,600 university teams in promoting the use of standard spoken and written Chinese, while supporting rural education and fostering ethnic unity.
