The MOE and the Provincial Government of Hunan convened a joint meeting in Beijing on July 14 to strengthen cooperation on educational reform and innovation. The discussions focused on aligning provincial initiatives with national strategies to build a high-quality, future-oriented education system.
Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng commended Hunan’s recent achievements and urged the province to further its reform efforts by piloting new approaches under China’s national education modernization plan. He encouraged leveraging Hunan’s rich cultural and historical heritage to develop innovative models for civic and moral education, alongside stronger student mental health support.
Huai also emphasized the importance of integrating education with science and industry, noting that talent development must respond to both national priorities and local economic needs. He called for improvements in academic program design and better translation of research into practical solutions for addressing real-world challenges.
Party Secretary Shen Xiaoming highlighted Hunan’s active experimentation with reforms aimed at integrating education, scientific research, and workforce development. These efforts are designed to attract top talent, strengthen research capacity, and create scalable models for nationwide adoption. He expressed hope for continued MOE support in expanding these innovations.
Governor Mao Weiming noted that, under MOE guidance, Hunan has made significant progress in expanding educational access and improving quality across all levels. He called for additional support in areas such as academic discipline development and infrastructure sharing to help build a more distinctive and effective provincial education system.
