The MOE and the Chongqing Municipal Government convened a joint meeting on June 17 to strengthen cooperation on higher education, research, and innovation-driven development. Yuan Jiajun, Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Committee, and Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng attended the meeting and delivered remarks.
Yuan welcomed the MOE delegation and expressed appreciation for its continued support for Chongqing’s educational reforms, the integration of industry and education, and international cooperation. He said the city is working to implement the priorities outlined during President Xi’s recent visit. It is also enhancing its strategic role within the Chengdu–Chongqing Twin City Economic Circle and increasing its overall contribution.
Yuan emphasized the city’s efforts to align education, science, and talent development with its broader modernization goals, including initiatives to double the number of high-tech businesses. He expressed hope for deeper collaboration with the MOE in areas such as expanding access to high-quality universities, supporting the development of major national research and innovation centers, and accelerating technology transfer and the development of academic disciplines.
Minister Huai praised Chongqing’s proactive approach to turning its scientific and educational strengths into drivers of high-quality development. He pledged continued ministerial support for the region, particularly in implementing the national strategy of turning China into a leading educational powerhouse. Huai called for further efforts to better align talent training with economic and social needs, improve university technology transfer systems, and advance regional development through greater contributions from the education sector.
Vice Minister Wang Guangyan, Chongqing Vice Party Secretary Li Mingqing, and municipal officials Chen Xinwu and Liu Shangjin also attended the meeting.
