The Ministry of Education held a reading relay across schools nationwide as part of the “Reading Classics” event series on April 23, in celebration of World Book Day. The relay, which is part of efforts to implement the National Education Conference’s guidance and the 2024–2035 Master Plan on Building China into a Leading Country in Education, aims to promote public reading campaigns as well as traditional Chinese language and culture.
Under the theme of “The Brilliance of Classics and Continuity of Culture”, the relay featured diverse activities, including live recitations, AI-powered storytelling, and immersive reading experiences, which showcased innovative approaches to fostering youth and public engagement with Chinese literary classics while cultivating a reading-friendly environment.
The event was held at schools across 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and directly administered municipalities, as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, reaching over one million students and teachers, with more than 30 million views across online platforms.
