The opening ceremony for the 2025 “International Chinese Language Day” was held in Beijing on April 18. Vice Minister of Education Wu Yan attended the event and delivered a speech.

Wu underscored President Xi’s message from the 2024 World Chinese Language Conference, in which the President celebrated the Chinese language as an embodiment of thousands of years of Chinese wisdom. Wu then reiterated China’s commitment, as the birthplace of the language, to supporting Chinese language education worldwide and establishing it as a cherished global cultural resource.

Wu affirmed China’s readiness to work with other nations to strengthen policy coordination and further integrate technology into language learning, in order to broaden the practical uses of Chinese. He noted that these efforts aim to offer accessible, user-friendly, and high-quality resources for learners globally, promoting mutual understanding, trust, and cultural exchange between China and the rest of the world.

Established in 2020, “International Chinese Language Day” has grown into a global celebration. This year’s edition, themed “Chinese Language: A Gift Across Time and Space”, will include over a thousand events across more than 100 countries, showcasing the richness and beauty of Chinese language and culture.
