The plenary meeting of the 211th session of the Executive Board of UNESCO was held from April 7 to 8 in Paris, France. Chinese Vice Minister of Education Wu Yan attended the meeting and delivered a speech during the general policy debate.
Wu noted that world peace and sustainable development continue to face serious challenges, which are hindering progress on the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. He praised the Global Development Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping as demonstrations of true multilateralism. He also said China will continue to work with UNESCO in a responsible manner across all fields and stand ready to collaborate with other parties to support UNESCO in fulfilling its mission, thereby contributing to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
During the meeting, Wu held talks with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay and UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education Stefania Giannini, exchanging views on promoting the establishment of the new UNESCO Category 1 International Institute for STEM Education.
