China inaugurated its first international teacher training program at the Global Teacher Development Academy at Beijing Normal University on March 27. Vice Minister of Education Du Jiangfeng attended the event and delivered a speech.
Du described the initiative as a strategic step in China’s educational outreach, hailing the academy as a key platform for international teacher collaboration. He called for coordination and expansion of global teacher education networks by integrating resources from education departments, universities, and professional organizations.
Du also called for enhanced cooperation among the academy’s initial 21 affiliated centers, urging detailed study into teacher training practices across different countries and regions. He also emphasized the importance of clearly defined priorities and increased collaboration between government bodies, higher education institutions, and international organizations to achieve these goals.
Participants from Kazakhstan and Nigeria, along with Chinese educators involved in overseas teaching projects and international student representatives, shared their experiences during the event.
Educators from more than 50 countries attended the program launch. Representatives from the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, the National Development and Reform Commission, the China International Development Cooperation Agency, as well as senior officials from Peking University, Beijing Normal University, and Beijing Foreign Studies University, also participated.
