The Ministry of Education (MOE) recently held a national conference in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province to identify key tasks in the basic education sector for 2025, in line with guidance set forth by the National Education Work Conference. Vice Minister and National Chief Inspector of the MOE Wang Jiayi attended the event and delivered a speech.
The conference stressed the goal for 2025 of developing a fair, high-quality compulsory education system by balancing development and safety, ensuring solid foundations while fostering reform and innovation, and achieving steady progress with a problem-solving approach based on sound planning and pilot projects. To achieve this goal, efforts will be made to implement the 2024–2035 Master Plan on Building China into a Leading Country in Education and the “Three-Year Action Plan.”
The conference laid out eight key tasks for basic education work in 2025:
1) Reinforcing moral education and optimizing the current education system in order to cultivate well-rounded talent;
2) Effectively raising the quality of basic education;
3) Consolidating the results of the “Double Reduction” Initiative by further reducing student burdens;
4) Further standardizing the management of basic education;
5) Strengthening the development of textbooks, particularly those for courses on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era;
6) Promoting digital education through use of the National Smart Education Platform and the Service Platform for Management of Basic Education, among others;
7) Facilitating integrated reforms in basic education by optimizing resource allocation and strengthening the family-school-community alliance; and
8) Improving campus security to create safer school environments.
Representatives from Guangdong Province, Beijing, Jiangxi Province, Tai’an City, Shandong Province, and Shuangfeng County, Hunan Province, delivered speeches during the conference. Officials from relevant MOE departments and provincial educational departments also attended the event.
