The MOE and six other government agencies have jointly issued Measures to Further Enhance Respect and Benefits for Teachers, aiming to elevate educators’ social and professional status and improve their benefits. The measures include support for teachers in healthcare, cultural enrichment, daily life, and housing.
In healthcare, the measures call for annual free health checkups for teachers, regular mental health lectures, and medical checkup. Local governments are also encouraged to provide medical services tailored to teachers’ needs.
To enhance cultural engagement, the measures propose discounted or free access for teachers to public cultural venues, such as museums, galleries, and science centers. Teachers are also encouraged to participate in cultural and sports activities to enrich their personal and professional lives.
In terms of support for daily life, businesses are encouraged to offer exclusive discounts to teachers, while state-owned banks are urged to provide personalized financial services. Public transport discounts, including on buses and subways, are also suggested. In terms of housing, the measures recommend including eligible teachers in urban housing support programs.
The document emphasizes the importance of mobilizing social resources to support these initiatives. It encourages donations and volunteer efforts to improve teacher benefits and outlines plans for a mobile platform, “China Teachers,” to provide easy access to support resources.
The MOE has pledged to ensure effective implementation of these measures and promotion of best practices across the country in order to foster a culture of respect for teachers nationwide.
