The Expert Committee of the Interministerial Joint Meeting on the Standardization of Foreign Language-to-Chinese Translations deliberated and approved the 16th set of recommended Chinese translations for foreign terms.
This set, which comprises 18 subgroups, features terminology in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology (IT). The selection of terms was primarily based on expert recommendations and key documents, such as the 2024 Research Report on the Development of AI-based Large Language Models (LLMs) Technology, the Action Plan for the High-quality Development of Computing Power Infrastructure, the 2022–2023 Report on the Assessment of China’s AI Computing Power Development, and the 2024 Report on the Development of Embodied Intelligence. Additional references included lettered words that emerged in new vocabulary from 2021 to 2023, as well as entries released by the China National Committee for Terminology in Science and Technology.
This set of recommended translations resulted from a rigorous, meticulous, and methodical selection process involving industrial expert review via correspondence and corpus-based data analysis and verification. The final recommendations prioritized both scientific accuracy and practical applicability, making the translated terms suitable for broad acceptance and adoption. The Expert Committee encourages the use of these standardized translations of foreign terms across various sectors of society.
