The National Conference on the Standard Chinese Proficiency Test (or Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi, PSC) was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province on Nov. 13. Vice Minister of Education Xiong Sihao and Vice Governor of Sichuan Zuo Yongxiang delivered speeches.
The meeting reviewed President Xi Jinping’s call during the National Education Conference on Sept. 9–10 to further expand the use of standard Chinese, emphasizing its vital role in unifying the nation. It was noted that the PSC has become a large-scale, standardized test of standard Chinese over the past three decades, providing strong support for standard Chinese promotion and education.
The meeting stressed the need to improve the rules and regulations for the PSC, strengthen capacity building for examiners, and promote the use of digital technologies to strengthen the testing system.
Participants from some provincial education departments, higher education institutions, and PSC, sites shared their insights. Other attendees at the conference included representatives from various departments and bureaus of the MOE, and education departments of provinces across the country.
