Vice Minister of Education Chen Jie led a delegation to El Salvador on Sept. 26–27. During his visit, Chen met with El Salvador’s Minister of Education, Science and Technology, José Mauricio Pineda. The two ministers also signed an agreement on mutual recognition of qualifications and academic degrees in higher education.

Chen said the aim of his visit was to promote bilateral educational cooperation and people-to-people exchange, based on the consensus reached by the heads of the two countries. Pineda said the agreement signed during the meeting represented a milestone in educational cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides exchanged in-depth views on student exchange, Chinese teaching, and teacher training. They agreed to further facilitate communication and mutual understanding between the two countries’ young people.

Chen also visited the University of El Salvador and attended a celebration marking the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute at the university. Chinese Ambassador to El Salvador Zhang Yanhui attended the event.
