Vice Minister of Education of China and Director of the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO Chen Jie met with the visiting Minister of National Education and Scientific Research of Burundi Dr. François Havyarimana in Beijing on Sept. 7. Havyarimana was in China to attend the China-Africa-UNESCO Dialogue on Education and Cultural Heritage Protection held on Sept. 6.
During their meeting, the two sides exchanged views on advancing bilateral educational cooperation between China and Burundi. Chen said that China is committed to implementing the guidance from Chinese President Xi Jinping’s speech at the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the outcomes of the recent Dialogue, and will conduct practical cooperation with Burundi in areas such as teacher training and capacity building, engineering and vocational education, digital education, and language teaching. The two countries will work together to modernize education and foster understanding and friendship between their younger generations.
Havyarimana congratulated China on the success of the Dialogue and commended China’s contribution to China-Africa educational cooperation. He also expressed gratitude for China’s support in Burundi’s educational development as well as interest in learning from China’s experience to enhance practical cooperation between the two countries.
