The 7th ASEAN Plus Three (China, Japan and South Korea) Education Ministers Meeting and the 7th East Asia Summit Education Ministers Meeting were held in Thailand on Aug. 26, with Education Minister Huai Jinpeng attending via video and delivering a speech. The theme of the meetings was “Transforming Education in the Digital Era.”
Huai noted that digital technology is reshaping economies and societies in every way, with an increasingly profound impact on how people think, how goods are produced, and how people live. He said digital transformation has become an important means of advancing educational reform worldwide. He also said that China’s latest CPC Central Committee meeting stressed the need to promote the digitization of education and facilitate the development of a learning society.
Huai said that China attaches great importance to international cooperation in digital education and is willing to work with ASEAN countries to boost digital transformation in education through the harmonization of policies in different countries, the sharing of digital education resources, and the development of “Digital Campus Asia.” He added that China is also willing to help other countries in the region enhance teachers’ digital competence, thus jointly seizing opportunities offered by digital education.
