The Winners Presentation Section of the First National College Student Career Planning Competition (NCSCPC) was held in Shanghai on July 12. In parallel, a ceremony was also organized to mark the launch of a career journey in grassroots organizations for selected groups of new college graduates. Education Minister Huai Jinpeng and Mayor of Shanghai Gong Zheng delivered statements to the events via video. Vice Minister of Education Weng Tiehui and Vice Mayor of Shanghai Chen Jie attended the events.
In his speech, Minister Huai recalled President Xi’s important remarks on the employment of college graduates, in which Xi advocated job-seeking with new thinking and called on young people to combine their personal ambitions with contribution to national development. Huai noted that the first NCSCPC fulfilled three purposes: creating a platform for precise job matching and establishment of partnerships between educational institutions and enterprises; showcasing excellent teachers’ instructions on career planning; and providing a vivid “classroom” for peer learning. Huai also highlighted the importance of working at the grassroots level where young people can grow solidly, learn practical lessons, and make a big difference.
Mayor of Shanghai Gong Zheng said that Shanghai is right on track to turn itself into a socialist, modern international metropolis. He added that Shanghai would seize the opportunity presented by hosting the finals of the competition to strengthen the support system for full and high-quality employment of college graduates. He expressed hope that graduates from HEIs across the city would choose to work in grassroots or community-level organizations in the fields of technological innovation, rural rejuvenation, green development, social services, and defense of the border regions, among others. He said that Shanghai would establish support platforms for employment and entrepreneurship, explore new pathways for community-level employment, and create a highly livable environment for graduates of both domestic and overseas universities.
In the Winner Presentation Section, winners from the Growth Group presented their ideas on career planning and ways to consistently improve their comprehensive skills. Winners from the Employment Group demonstrated how they designed their career paths and prepared themselves for various professions, including provision of technical, engineering, and medical services to farmers. Gold Award winners from the Teachers Group showcased their instruction and guidance on career planning.
At the grassroots employment ceremony, representatives from five teams (i.e., those working in education, agriculture and healthcare at the community level and supporting rural rejuvenation,”: those working in western regions; special teachers in rural areas; rural medical workers; and new conscripts) took a collective oath, expressing their strong faith in contributing to the development of robust communities.
Held at Fudan University, the events were jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the Municipal Government of Shanghai. Attendees included leaders of the organizing committees of the NCSCPC, representatives from provincial educational departments and provincial human resources and social security departments, winners of the competition, etc.
