Vice Minister of Education Chen Jie met with Edward (Ted) Chaiban, Assistant Secretary-General of the UN and Deputy Executive Director for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in Beijing on July 9.
Chen praised UNICEF for its substantial support for educational development in China over the past four decades. He introduced China’s achievements in promoting educational equity and improving educational quality through the development of digital education, as well as the effective application of artificial intelligence to empower education and address challenges. He said that, as the lead country for UNICEF’s global initiative “Gateways to Public Digital Learning”, China is willing to strengthen communication with UNICEF and contribute Chinese wisdom and experience.
Chaiban said that UNICEF highly values its partnership with China and fully recognizes China’s accomplishments in the education sector. He affirmed UNICEF’s commitment to propelling cooperation between the two sides to a new level.
Following the meeting, they signed the Memorandum of Understanding Between the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and UNICEF on the Development of the Gateways to Public Digital Learning Initiative to Benefit All Children and Youth.
