The 2024 Conference on Education Planning in Minority-settled Regions was held in Guiyang on Apr. 26. The purpose of the event was to establish a plan of action for 2024 and exchange best practices for improving education in regions inhabited by minorities. Vice Minister of Education Weng Tiehui attended the event and delivered a speech.

The conference emphasized the importance of using education to foster a strong sense of national identity and unity. It further required that China’s modernization drive include the integration of more fair and widespread access to high-quality education in regions inhabited by minority groups.

Additionally, the conference emphasized the need to integrate moral education, social engagement, and interaction among students from diverse ethnic backgrounds into all aspects of school life.

The MOE pledged to further provide targeted support to address educational gaps and disparities between minority areas and more prosperous regions.

Representatives from provincial education departments, as well as officials from autonomous regions and municipalities, also attended the conference.
