Smart Education of China platform launches comprehensive application

This year marks the third year of implementing the National Strategy for Educational Digitalization and also the “Year of Quality Improvement” in digital education. The Ministry of Education (MOE) launched comprehensive application of its Smart Education of China platform for primary and secondary schools on Mar. 28, with the goal of expanding coverage of high-quality educational resources, boosting educational reform and innovation, driving balanced development of education in all regions, and supporting digitally enabled quality improvement in basic education.

The initiative of comprehensive application focuses on three major tasks: First, expanding the pilot program in Guangdong and Hainan by fully integrating high-quality resources from all platforms at all levels, providing intelligent assistance in multiple scenarios, and promoting adoption by all. This will help transform the two provinces into demonstration zones for comprehensive smart education and support the development of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Greater Bay Area and the Hainan Free Trade Port. Second, the pilot program will also be expanded in ethnic minority areas in the middle and western parts of China, particularly in Xizang, Qinghai, Ningxia and Xinjiang, with a view to enhancing the effectiveness of the Smart Education of China platform, making the development of digital resources more targeted, and supporting quality improvement through digitalized education in areas with large ethnic minority populations. Third, sharing high-quality digital resources will be promoted in eastern China by mobilizing all relevant parties in Beijing, Shanghai, and Jiangsu, putting in place mechanisms for access to and evaluation of digital resources, and increasing the supply of high-quality educational resources.

The initiative is expected to achieve a series of results by the end of 2025: with the joint effort of MOE and provincial governments, a new teaching paradigm will be developed that involves comprehensive participation, while proper management and assurance systems will be established. In addition, as the Smart Education of China platform is widely adopted, more extensive use of AI applications and new models, practices, and results will emerge, which will help to expand sharing of high-quality resources and benefit a broader range of teachers and students.
