Wang Jiayi attends 2nd Global Forum on the Ethics of AI

The second Global Forum on the Ethics of AI was hosted in Slovenia under the patronage of UNESCO Feb. 5–6. Chinese Vice Minister of Education Wang Jiayi attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech at a high-level ministerial session. He also participated in closed consultations with ministers on the Interim Report of the UN Secretary-General’s High Level Advisory Body on AI.

In his speech, Wang said China has put high priority on the application and governance of AI. In 2023, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced China’s proposed Global AI Governance Initiative, which provides a constructive approach to AI development and governance. China upholds genuine multilateralism, the philosophy of consultation, and joint contribution and shared benefits, as well as the principle of mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit. It also strives to create an open, fair, effective governance mechanism promoting the benefits of AI for all humanity. His speech was met with audience applause.

During the forum, Wang also held discussions with Amandeep Singh Gill, UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO, and high-level representatives from Indonesia and other countries.
