Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng made an inspection visit to Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) to gain insights into key areas such as laboratory development, smart education, student innovation practices, and campus safety management. On the same occasion, Minister Huai also paid a visit to BUPT Prof. Chen Junliang, who is also an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Huai Jinpeng emphasized that BUPT, in alignment with its mission of “promoting China’s pioneering role in telecom tech and cybersecurity,” needs to focus on enhancing the cultivation of outstanding innovative talent and making a greater contribution to developing China into a leading country in education. He urged BUPT to strengthen basic research, accelerate breakthroughs in original innovation, and improve the quality of graduate education, particularly for doctoral candidates, in order to foster more outstanding innovative talent and serve national strategic development needs. Additionally, BUPT needs to leverage its advantages in information technology, seize opportunities in technological and industrial transformation, particularly in the areas of digital technology and the digital economy. He suggested actively exploring interdisciplinary integration and creating a diversified talent training system in the field of electronic information. Furthermore, he highlighted the need to strengthen students' practical capabilities, encourage more students to engage in innovative practices, and establish an educational ecosystem that encourages student innovation. He also underscored the imperative of improving campus safety by implementing and effectively executing stronger safety rules and measures, carrying out thorough hazard assessment, and reinforcing the university’s responsibility for overall campus safety.
During his visit with Academician Chen Junliang, Minister Huai expressed admiration for Prof. Chen's contribution as a senior expert in the field of information technology. He said Prof. Chen has contributed tremendously to both the development of science and technology in China and the cultivation of talent, setting an exemplary educational model. On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Huai extended New Year greetings to Prof. Chen and all teachers in the education system. He expressed hope that young teachers would learn from the noble character of Prof. Chen, demonstrating a commitment to the nation and a selfless dedication to knowledge, and contributing their wisdom to the great cause of national rejuvenation.
