Chen Jie meets with Duke University President

Vice Minister of Education Chen Jie met with Duke University President Vincent Price on August 15. The two sides exchanged views on Sino-American higher education institution (HEI) cooperation.

Chen stated that President Price and his university have worked actively to promote educational exchange and cooperation between China and the U.S. and have built friendly partnerships with Chinese HEIs. Duke Kunshan University, which was co-founded by Duke University and Wuhan University, is an example of such a partnership and has achieved exceptional results. Chen expressed hope that Duke Kunshan would further innovate its talent training model and improve the quality of its talent training, thus serving as a model for Sino-American educational cooperation.

Mr. Price expressed appreciation for the great support given by the MOE. He pledged that Duke University would participate more in educational exchange and cooperation between China and the U.S. and continue to promote innovation and progress at Duke Kunshan, with a focus on climate change, public health and other global issues, in order to expand joint training programs and increase scientific research collaboration between the two countries.

Zhang Pingwen, president of Wuhan University, Alec Gallimore, provost of Duke University, and Chris Simmons, vice president of Duke University, also attended the meeting.
