Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng paid a ministerial visit to Australia on August 14-15. During the visit, Huai met with his Australian counterpart Jason Claire and other senior Australian officials, including Brendan O'Connor, Australia’s Minister for Skills and Training, Governor of Victoria Margaret Gardner, and Premier of Victoria Daniel Andrews. He also met with the presidents of 15 Australian universities, visited the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, and the University of Technology Sydney, and held roundtable discussions with Chinese students and scholars living in Australia.
The visit was part of efforts to implement a significant consensus between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Albanese, with a view to strengthening cooperation between the two nations in the field of education. The Chinese delegation received a warm welcome from the Australian government and education community. The two sides held in-depth talks and reached consensus on cooperation in student exchange, joint research, cooperative programs, and digital education, among other things. During the visit, the Ministries of Education of China and Australia held the 6th meeting of the China- Australia Joint Working Group on Education and Research.
Xiao Qian, Chinese Ambassador to Australia, was also present during the visit.
