The Second China High-Level Forum on Chinese Language Dictionaries was held in Beijing on Nov. 27. Vice Minister of Education Tian Xuejun attended and spoke at the event.

Tian said that dictionaries for the Chinese language represent a snapshot of Chinese history and culture. He echoed the call from the recently concluded 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China for the Ministry of Education to foster a stronger belief in Chinese culture among its citizens. He pointed out that dictionaries, as a potent tool for disseminating knowledge, can play a role in this effort.

Additionally, the vice minister emphasized the significance of existing dictionaries in maintaining the seriousness of language standards and standardizing the Chinese writing system. He advocated for more involvement from the China Association for Lexicography in the development of China’s dictionary industry.
