Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation award ceremony held online

A ceremony was held online on July 21 to present the 18th Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation (FYTEF) awards to selected young lecturers from higher education institutions (HEIs) in recognition of their outstanding performance in scientific research and teaching. Education Minister Huai Jinpeng and Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Li Jiachao delivered speeches.

Huai first reviewed President Xi’s speech at the conference celebrating the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland, in which Xi placed special emphasis on young people, calling for more opportunities for them to achieve their potential and pursue their ambitions. Huai said that Xi’s speech also highlighted the need to deepen educational cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong.

Huai expressed hope that young researchers and teachers at HEIs would dedicate themselves to talent cultivation and scientific research with the ambition of becoming highly acclaimed educators and solving tough scientific problems.

Li said that the HKSAR government would prioritize education and youth work, creating more opportunities for young people in Hong Kong to study in the mainland and contribute to both national development and the development of Hong Kong.

Vice Minister of Education Tian Xuejun made closing remarks and presented the awards to the honorees. Cai Ruolian, Director of the Hong Kong Education Bureau, Fok Zhenhuan, Chairman of FYTEF, and Fok Zhenting, Vice Chairman of FYTEF, also attended the ceremony.

Through rigorous selection, a total of 172 teachers from 118 HEIs received FYTEF awards, including 10 first-place winners and 162 second-place winners.
