On November 18, Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng met with John Edward Hopcroft, Visiting Chair Professor of Peking University and Hao Ping, President of Peking University.

Huai commended Hopcroft’s remarkable achievements in computer science research and pedagogical practices. Both sides exchanged views on how to improve the quality of undergraduate education, enhance training for teachers, refine teacher evaluation systems and expand cooperation and partnership.

Hopcroft was honored with the A. M. Turing Award in 1986. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS), a member of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), and a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received China's Friendship Award in 2016, and is now director of Center on Frontiers of Computing Studies, Peking University.
