On November 16, Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng attended the 22nd meeting of the Sino-Russian Committee on People-to-People and Cultural Cooperation and delivered a speech via video.

Huai said that bilateral educational cooperation between China and Russia had progressed rapidly in the past year thanks to implementation of a strategic consensus reached between the heads of both countries and regular premier-level meetings. More than 300 agreements had been signed between universities from the two sides, and the Sino-Russian University Alliance had become the largest bilateral cooperation network for tertiary education in the world.

Despite the impact of COVID-19, the total number of international students in both countries increased to 57,000 in 2020, including those studying online. Bilateral linguistic cooperation had also maintained momentum, with around 40,000 Russian students studying Chinese and 90,000 Chinese students studying Russian under the programs of language promotion organizations such as the Confucius Institute and Russian Language Center.

A series of youth online activities had been held, as part of an effort to implement the Declaration on China-Russia Permanent Youth Friendship. The two countries also joined hands and offered support to each other in multilateral cooperative frameworks such as Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Huai added that bilateral educational cooperation would continue to grow in 2022 with strengthened and innovative measures.

Vice Minister of Education Tian Xuejun also participated in the video conference.
