On November 11, the third Belt and Road Dialogue on Education was held in Beijing. Vice Minister of Education Tian Xuejun delivered a video message.

Tian first recalled the policy document issued by the MOE in July 2016, Action Plan for ‘Belt and Road’ Education Initiative, which marked a new chapter in China’s educational cooperation with the outside world. He said that the Action Plan had played a pivotal role in promoting China’s exchanges and cooperation with participating countries, by improving the quality of joint education and language programs, and enhancing cooperation between industry, academia and research. The vice minister pledged that China would further implement more resilient international exchange and cooperation programs in education, and address the risks and challenges facing education in partnership with participating countries. He called on nations along the “Belt and Road” to deepen joint research, and improve the quality and efficiency of exchanges and cooperation in education, in order to address future challenges and realize the goals set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This year’s Dialogue was organized by the Chinese Academy of Educational Sciences around the theme “Research, Cooperation and Innovation”. The event witnessed discussions on the development of education research networks, progress in research into educational policy, methods and models of international cooperation in education, and innovative educational practices. Representatives of 44 research institutions, universities, government departments from nearly 30 countries along the “Belt and Road” participated in the dialogue via video conference.
