On December 3, a ceremony was held to celebrate the settlement of the Global Chinese Learning Platform (GCLP) in Qingdao, Shandong Province.

GCLP is an online learning platform developed by Chinese leading AI company iFLYTEK under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and the State Language Commission. Its target users include preschool children, primary and secondary school pupils, Chinese adult learners of standard Putonghua (mandarin Chinese), and Chinese language learners from foreign countries.

Vice Minister of Education Tian Xuejun attended and addressed the event. He said GCLP was designed to meet new demands arising in this new era of technology revolutions for artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing. GCLP aimed to provide an online learning platform where anyone could learn anytime and anywhere. Especially during the outbreak of COVID-19 when many schools were closed, GCLP offered great support for learners around the world.

Tian said Qingdao was one of China’s first coastal cities opening to the world, an important city along the New Eurasian Land Bridge, and home to the Demonstration Zone for China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation. Settling into Qingdao, GCLP would embrace more opportunities to grow and thrive into an influential Chinese language learning platform in the world.

GCLP started to operate in October 2019. Up to today, it has attracted 2.03 million subscribers from nearly 170 countries/areas. Website of the platform is http://www.chinese-learning.cn/#/web.
