MOE launches research program into ancient Chinese writing systems

The Ministry of Education (the MOE), the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, the State Language Commission and five other relevant authorities jointly announced the launch of a program to promote research into ancient Chinese writing systems, and for the dissemination of Chinese traditional culture.

The program focuses on ancient writing systems such as oracle bone inscriptions, bronze inscriptions, bamboo inscriptions and silk inscriptions, and aims to explore more about the significant impact of ancient writing on the evolution of Chinese culture in China and the world at large.

It is expected that in 5-10 years’ time, a sophisticated research platform will be built, which will bring together a team of high-caliber researchers and professionals and bring out a number of influential academic research.

This program is built on the existing research projects conducted by the MOE and State Language Commission, and will be participated by a number of higher educational institutions, research institutes, cultural organizations and museums. Engineering Expert Commission will provide advisory support and guidance.
