On May 22, Vice Minister of Education Weng Tiehui toured Capital Normal University to assess and provide guidance on graduate employment facilitation. She exchanged views with staff at the university’s Career Guidance Center, graduating class counselors, and graduate representatives.

Weng emphasized that the Party Central Committee and the State Council have prioritized the employment of university graduates amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The MOE, in conjunction with other ministries, is working to create more jobs from May to August via the “100-Day Employment Facilitation” initiative. Measures include expanding recruitment of teachers in community level schools, enlisting more college graduates in the armed forces, and creating extra research assistant positions in HEIs and more service jobs in community centers.

She urged graduating class counselors to provide graduates with one-on-one guidance on the “last mile” of their journey to the workforce. She especially encouraged them to make full use of the National Platform for Graduating Class Counselors on Career Support to check on the employment status of graduates and push new job postings.

The vice minister required HEIs to take advantage of the newly introduced state policies and resources to support graduates in their employment, provide them with career development guidance and encourage them to actively seek employment.
