On September 26, Minister of Education Chen Baosheng met with the Hong Kong and Macao Education Delegation for China’s 2019 National Day Celebration in Beijing. The delegation was organized for the 16th time, at the invitation of the Ministry of Education, to visit the mainland and was comprised of 210 delegates, including officials from education departments in Hong Kong and Macao governments, elementary and middle-level school principals, outstanding teachers, and heads of educational organizations from Hong Kong and Macao SARs.

Chen observed that the visiting Hong Kong and Macao educators and teachers personally experienced China’s development outcomes over the past seven decades while enhancing communication with their mainland peers. Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, China has made historic steps forward in education, which should be attributed to the joint efforts by all in the education sector including those in Hong Kong and Macao. He hoped that education workers in both the mainland and the SARs would work together to seize the opportunity to write a new chapter in China’s education development and contribute to the great revitalization of the Chinese nation.

Tan Junrong, Director of the Social and Cultural Affairs Department of the Macao Special Administrative Region government, and Christine Choi Yuk-lin, Under Secretary for Education of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, among other representatives of the delegation, when speaking at the meeting, shared their thoughts and feelings during the visit and expressed their firm determination to uphold the principle of “one country, two systems” and promote Hong Kong and Macao’s educational development.

The directors and heads of MOE’s relevant departments and subordinate bodies also attended the meeting.
