On September 26, Wu Weihua, Vice-Chairperson of the NPC Standing Committee met with 210 delegates of the Hong Kong and Macao Education Delegation for China’s 2019 National Day Celebration at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The delegation was organized for the 16th time, at the invitation of the Ministry of Education, to visit the mainland and was comprised of officials of the education departments in Hong Kong and Macao governments, elementary and middle-level school principals, outstanding teachers, and heads of educational organizations from Hong Kong and Macao SARs. Vice Minister of Education Tian Xuejun attended and hosted the meeting.

Wu introduced to the delegates the historic achievements China had made in social and economic development since 1949 and acknowledged the contribution made by the fellow Chinese in Hong Kong and Macao.

He also encouraged teachers and educators from Hong Kong and Macao to work hard on youth education in the SARs and cultivate talent for the country by reinforcing moral development, with a view to maintaining Hong Kong and Macao’s long-term prosperity and stability, promoting their integration with the mainland, and contributing to the revitalization of the Chinese nation.

The MOE initiated the first Hong Kong and Macao Education Delegation for National Day Celebration in 2014. These delegations have played a positive role in increasing Hong Kong and Macao citizens’ recognition of ethnic identity and their understanding of the history, culture and accomplishments of the motherland.
