On July 8, the MOE held a ceremony in Beijing to launch a high-level capacity building training program for individuals engaged in promoting China’s people-to-people and cultural exchanges with other countries. Vice Education Minister Sun Yao attended the ceremony and conferred a certificate of appointment to Professor Yuan Ming, Dean of the Yenching Academy of Peking University and representative of experts invited to give lectures to the trainees.

Noting that the MOE attached great importance to the role of Sino-foreign people-to-people and cultural exchanges, Sun said that the Ministry of Education had been improving its work in this area, especially by increasing international exchanges and cooperation in the education sector. He hoped that the trainees would seize this opportunity to increase their know-how and acquire better skills in boosting China’s people-to-people and cultural exchanges with other countries.

The training program is an important initiative to implement President Xi’s key proposal for people-to-people communication and the State Council document –Opinions on Improving People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges between China and Other Countries. By offering a platform for increasing understanding of the new tasks and sharing of best practices in this area, the program is aimed at building a body of high-level talent with strong professional skills and broad vision, capable of raising China’s exchanges with other countries to a new level.

The training program will be attended by over 70 trainees (the first group) from 12 central government departments, 28 provincial educational authorities, 12 organizations directly affiliated to the MOE and 13 universities, media and research institutions.
