On April 11, the 2019 National Education Informatization Conference was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province. Vice Education Minister Zhong Denghua attended the event and delivered a speech.

Zhong noted that, over the past four decades, especially since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, remarkable progress had been made in the application of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to education and the improvement of cyber security. Indicator scores in education informatization had soared, with step changes made in innovative ICT application models and coordinated development achieved between informatization and cyber security. The impact of rapid informatization development was far-reaching, catalyzing progress in education.

Zhong stressed that informatization was both the inevitable result and a new driving force of social change. He emphasized the urgency and critical need to accelerate education informatization, which could only be achieved through sound planning and long-term research-based exploration from a global and forward-looking perspective. He stated that this year work in this area needed to be centered around three major tasks: facilitating poverty alleviation, further integrating ICTs into teaching practice, and implementing the Action Plan for “Education Informationization 2.0”.

Later during the meeting, representatives from Yunnan, Jiangxi, Hannan, Guangdong, Ningxia and Hunan provinces presented local measures aimed at promoting ICT use in education, while officials from various departments of the MOE introduced a range of associated targets to be reached this year.
