BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- China has approved the establishment of 1,672 undergraduate programs in colleges and universities, including preventive medicine and cyberspace security, to support the development of urgently needed and emerging majors.

The new undergraduate programs also include traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation, artificial intelligence, and data science and big data technology, according to the Ministry of Education.

The ministry has also added 181 new majors to the state catalog of undergraduate majors, such as virtual reality technology, blockchain engineering and emergency management.

Strict control has been imposed on the establishment of overheated majors, including business management, accounting and tourism management, to help guide colleges and universities to train talented people to meet social needs, the ministry said.
