At this year’s NPC session, Xiong Sidong, NPC representative and President of Suzhou University, highlighted the progress that the university has achieved through implementing the MOE Education Endeavor 2018 program. He listed five areas of noteworthy success.

First, the university further put quality first in an effort to turn itself into a top-performing higher education institution in China. Second, the university shifted its focus from one-way teaching to autonomous learning, allowing students to become participants in, rather than spectators of, teaching activities. Third, moral education was further bolstered. Fourth, modern information technology has been further applied in teaching reforms, to cater for a new generation of students who are digital natives. For years, Suzhou University has been offering mini-lectures and MOOC courses online, using internet technology to disseminate knowledge in forms that students are familiar with and happy to embrace. In 2018, the university launched 10 open online courses that were ranked among the country’s best. Currently, it is constructing a "Suzhou University on the Cloud", a drive to achieve full digitalization of teaching resources and omni-channel learning solutions suited to the upcoming 5G and IoT eras. Fifth, innovation and entrepreneurship have been incorporated in the design of teaching plans. The university has made institutional arrangements for students to be exposed to an entrepreneurial environment and encourages and supports students to participate in research, technological development and simulated business operations.
