Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng met with Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Dr. Khaled El-Enany on May 13, during which they held an in-depth discussion on China–UNESCO cooperation. Ren Youqun, Vice Minister of Education and Director of the China National Commission for UNESCO, and Prof. Shahbaz Khan, Director and Representative to the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, also attended the meeting.

Huai spoke positively of the progress made in bilateral cooperation in recent years. Noting the significance of Director-General El-Enany’s first visit to China, Huai expressed hope that both sides would improve their cooperation framework, deepen practical collaboration across education, science, culture, and information and communication, and continue to contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

El-Enany expressed appreciation for China’s longstanding support of UNESCO. He said UNESCO would further strengthen its partnership with China, taking bilateral cooperation to a new level.

Following the meeting, the two sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Enhancing Strategic Cooperation and the China Funds-in-Trust Agreement on Enhancing Capacity Building for Implementation of the World Heritage Convention in Africa and the Asia-Pacific Region.
