Hangzhou, May 12, 2026 — China released a new set of artificial intelligence (AI) literacy resources for primary and secondary schools at the Basic Education Parallel Session of the 2026 World Digital Education Conference (WDEC) in Hangzhou.
The session, themed “Nurturing Young Minds, Renewing the Learning Ecosystem: AI Reshaping Basic Education,” focused on how AI is transforming teaching and learning. The new resources are designed to support AI-enabled education across different school stages and learning contexts.
Two core resources were launched: the AI Literacy Education Handbook and the course series Ten Lectures and 100 Questions on AI Literacy. Drawing on university expertise, classroom practice, and enterprise technology, they provide structured content for AI-enabled education in schools.
The handbook consists of four volumes, covering lower primary, upper primary, junior secondary, and senior secondary education. It introduces AI in a progressive way: picture-book stories for younger pupils, simple problem-solving tasks for older primary students, accessible explanations of technical concepts for junior secondary students, and interdisciplinary approaches and emerging developments for senior secondary students.
The course series comprises lectures and questions on AI literacy. The lectures use story-based cases and human–machine interaction to explain basic concepts, core technologies, applications, and ethical issues. The 100 Questions course uses animation to answer common questions from young learners, covering basic knowledge, frontier applications, practical use, ethics, and safety.
Multilingual versions are planned to support wider international use, including in Belt and Road partner countries and other regions.
