At a press conference held on February 9 on China’s progress in digital education, the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced that Smart Education of China has become the world’s largest educational resource database. The platform was officially launched on March 28, 2022, and has attracted a great number of users from more than 200 countries/areas.

As of now, the platform’s primary and secondary education section boasts 44,000 pieces of content; the vocational education section has access to 1,173 national and provincial-level pedagogical resource databases; and the higher education section brings together 27,000 high-quality massive open online courses and virtual simulation experiments.

Another important section of the platform aims to help college graduates find jobs. In 2022 it provided access to 13.7 million positions. In fact, 31.6% of college graduates last year found jobs using the platform, a 7.6 percentage points increase over 2021.

Pilot programs for the platform have been implemented in China’s 31 provincial-level administrative regions. Ten management standards and eight industry standards have been developed in the areas of platform tools, data resources, digital literacy and network security, among others. Of this group, seven industry standards for the education sector will be released at the upcoming World Digital Education Conference.

The World Digital Education Conference will be held from February 13–14. The MOE will take this opportunity to further promote technological and institutional innovation in digital education, thus supporting educational modernization and bringing benefits to all learners.
