Wang Chen, CPPCC National Committee member and president of Chinese Academy of Medical Science:

The aftermath of this pandemic should be a time to reflect and learn from mistakes that have been made: it should be a time to think long and hard about how to improve and support our public health system. The first step should be to establish a mechanism capable of attracting our best students to study medicine, whilst improving the way in which medicine is taught, to facilitate student progress. Secondly, we should ensure that that the working environment of these future health workers will enter is sufficiently motivating. In sum, we should on the one hand set higher standards in medical education, and on the other, provide more promising career options in the healthcare field.
