On December 27, the 18th plenary meeting of China Scholarship Council (CSC) was held in Beijing. Vice Minister of Education Tian Xuejun attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

Tian said that a more ambitious roadmap should be charted for the CSC’s work in the new era, to better respond to new challenges following the guidelines set out at the latest National Education Conference. He also required that the Council play a better leadership role in the work concerning Chinese students’ study abroad and international students’ study in China, and continue to optimize the structure and improve the effectiveness of various scholarship programs.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Immigration Administration, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and other CSC members. The meeting reviewed the CSC annual report 2018 and its work plan for 2019. While recognizing the achievements made by the Council in 2018, the meeting also highlighted the need for it to strengthen its work over the next year, especially related to the approval of applications for Chinese government scholarships and the management of government-funded Chinese students studying overseas, taking into account national demand.
