2018-11-26 09:03:00

On November 24, a dialogue on educational cooperation for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) entitled “Research, Policy-making and Outlook” was opened in Beijing. Drawing over 200 educational officials, scholars and experts from several international organizations and nearly 40 countries neighboring the route taken by the Belt and Road, the dialogue was hosted by China’s National Institute of Education Sciences and organized into three thematic groups--“the modernization of education and national development”, “new technological revolution and educational reforms” and “paths and models for improving equity and quality in education.” The aim of the dialogue was to explore ways to harness the intellectual and organizational potential of scientific research institutions in the education sector for the benefit of the BRI. Vice Minister of Education TIAN Xuejun attended the event and delivered a speech.

In his speech, Vice Minister Tian highlighted the fact that the dialogue was a major step forward for the education sector in its effort to fully implement the guidance given by President Xi, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee in his keynote addresses delivered at the symposium marking the fifth anniversary of the launch of the BRI and to the national education conference. Tian also underscored the importance of the event for international academic exchanges that supported the BRI. In the five years since the BRI began, substantial progress had been achieved in educational cooperation and exchange, but further and steady development would require further people-to-people exchanges and educational collaboration.

He also said that, China was willing to work with the countries neighboring the Belt and Road, upholding the principle of openness, cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win partnerships, to establish a diversified mechanism for educational cooperation and build a BRI community for education. Working towards the goal of shared growth through discussion and collaboration, more effort would be made on planning and guidance to improve the Belt and Road Educational Cooperation 2030 Agenda, while project collaboration would be reinforced towards mutual recognition of diplomas and degrees, joint degree programs, joint talent training, teacher development and training, and academic exchanges, in a range of pilot work areas. In addition, an open and inclusive Belt and Road collaborative mechanism characterized by flexibility, diversity and co-participation would be set up, by adopting new technologies and methods and promoting joint educational research, to generate and share more and higher quality research outcomes and facilitate their application.
