Jointly launched by Beijing Normal University, Guangming Daily and the Chinese Society of Education in June 2018, the Outstanding Teacher Award is intended to honor individual and teams of teachers that have made significant contributions to China’s basic education, and as a way to encourage teachers across the country to follow their example and excel in their role as educators with high integrity, lofty ideals, profound knowledge and kind hearts. The Outstanding Teacher Award is divided into two categories, i.e. the Enlightening Award and the Non-profit Action Award.

The former is conferred to 10 individual teachers who excel in their everyday work on the frontline, with a cash award of 500,000 RMB for each winner. Winners of this year include Huang Yafei from Zhugong Primary School, Zhangguying Town, Yueyang County, Yueyang City, Hunan Province and Nong Jiagui from Beining Central School, Liancheng Town, Guangnan County, Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan Province.

The latter is conferred to 10 teaching teams which have made exceptional achievements when implementing the non-profit action plan launched by the Outstanding Teacher Award, with a cash award of 200,000 RMB for each team. Winners of this year include the Teaching Team from Huashan Middle School, Xinjiang Province and the Teaching Team from No. 2 Primary School, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province.
