On August 26-28, the work conference for teaching force capacity building, and rural and least-developed region teacher empowerment in Xinjiang, Tibet, Gansu, Sichuan and Yunnan for the new era, was held in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province.

It was noted that historic achievements had been made in reinforcing teacher skills across the country, and that progress was being achieved in a number of areas, including the institutionalization of mechanisms for improving ethics in the teaching profession, and bridging the rural-urban gap in the allocation of educational resources, particularly by investing heavily in the country’s most economically disadvantaged areas.

It was emphasized that attention should be paid to improving the quality and efficiency of teacher capacity-building to create a cohort of fully prepared teachers to meet the educational needs of the new era. To this end, several measures were outlined, aimed at raising teacher compensation to increase their sense of gain and happiness, clearing career hurdles to create more incentive, and giving extra support to teachers from the poorest regions in particular.

At the conference, a work program based on ten pathways to improving professional ethics in teaching was launched, while representatives of groups of outstanding young rural teachers received recognition for their contributions, and an assessment report on developing the capacity of teachers from rural areas and least developed regions was released.

The event was attended by over 150 representatives, including heads of MOE departments and divisions, provincial educational authorities, universities, and educational departments from the most economically disadvantaged areas, as well as teacher representatives.
